Tyson Fury, one of the biggest names in world boxing, has garnered the interest of renowned MMA professionals. Last Wednesday (24), Dana White surprised everyone by expressing interest in promoting a superfight between ‘The Gypsy King’ and Jon Jones in the UFC. However, the world boxing champion responded immediately to the head of the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
The rivalry between Fury and Jones is recent. It all started last Thursday (18) when Joe Rogan stated that the British fighter would be defeated by ‘Bones’ if they were locked in a room to fight. In response, the boxing champion criticized the UFC commentator and guaranteed that he would emerge victorious against the American. Upon seeing his name involved in controversy, Jon challenged Tyson to a fight in the octagon but was met with a refusal.
Upon learning about the altercation between the two athletes, Dana opened the doors of the UFC for a potential clash. The organization’s president was so excited about the idea that he claimed to be able to convince Fury to face Jones in the octagon, just as he managed to make Floyd Mayweather fight Conor McGregor in boxing in 2017. However, according to the boxer, in an announcement made on Instagram, the only way to face Jon is if he accepts a boxing match.
“If you want to fight me, it has to be under boxing rules. I don’t roll around on the ground, I stand up and throw punches,” wrote the world boxing champion on his official Instagram account.
Tyson Fury, 34 years old, has had a successful career in boxing and is one of the most popular athletes in the sport. Throughout his journey, the British fighter has amassed an impressive record, with 34 fights, 33 wins, including 24 by knockout, and one draw. Among his notable achievements are victories over Deontay Wilder (twice), Derek Chisora (three times), Dillian Whyte, and Wladimir Klitschko.
