What was supposed to be a peaceful exhibition match for Floyd Mayweather turned into a widespread brawl on Sunday (11) in Sunrise, Florida. The turmoil involved not only the fighters but also both teams inside the ring.
Floyd Mayweather, who has been retired from boxing since 2017, agreed to participate in an exhibition against John Gotti III. Gotti, 30 years old, has been a professional boxer since mid-2022 but is best known for being the grandson of John Gotti, an iconic figure in organized crime in the United States.
The initial agreement was for the clash between Floyd Mayweather and John Gotti III to consist of eight rounds, each lasting two minutes. There would be no declared winner since there was no judging panel present to decide the outcome between Mayweather, one of the most successful boxers in the sport’s history, and Gotti, who had accumulated two victories in his career.
However, the atmosphere in the ring took a different turn. Mayweather, known for his irreverent personality, aggressively targeted Gotti from the beginning of the fight, provoking and challenging him repeatedly. He sought to silence the crowd, which seemed to be supporting Gotti due to his connection to the mobster.
The exchange of taunts and obscenities between the fighters continued until the sixth round when referee Kenny Bayless warned both fighters that he would no longer tolerate such behavior. However, Mayweather continued to act in the same manner as soon as the fight resumed, which led to the match being halted.
It was at this moment that Gotti lost his patience and, already outside the rules of the fight, aggressively went after Mayweather, throwing a series of punches with the intention of assaulting his opponent.
The fighters’ teams then stormed the ring to separate the brawl but also became involved in a widespread confusion. The situation escalated to the point where Mayweather and Gotti were escorted out of the venue, while the aggression continued for some time.
