Gabriel Jesus to miss start of season due to knee injury

Mikel Arteta, the Arsenal manager, has confirmed that striker Gabriel Jesus will not be available for the beginning of the Premier League season and will be sidelined for “a few weeks.” The Brazilian forward has recently undergone a knee “procedure,” as stated by Arteta after Arsenal’s victory over Monaco in a penalty shoot-out, which secured the Emirates Cup on Wednesday.

“Unfortunately, he had a little procedure this morning,” Arteta said. “He’s had some discomfort in his knee that caused him some issues so they had to go in. He’s going to be out for a few weeks.”

Additionally, the Arsenal manager disclosed that Gabriel Jesus’ recent setback is connected to a previous knee injury he sustained during the World Cup last winter, which resulted in him missing a significant portion of the second half of the season.

Despite this, the 26-year-old forward managed to feature in Arsenal’s previous pre-season friendly, where they secured a 5-3 victory over Barcelona in the US. Jesus played for 79 minutes and received commendation from Arteta for his performance after the match.
