Liverpool have reached an agreement with Brighton for the transfer of midfielder Moises Caicedo, setting a new British record for the transfer fee. The amount is reported to be £111 million. Caicedo is expected to undergo a medical examination in Liverpool on Friday. The deal will also include a clause allowing Brighton to receive a percentage of any future transfer fee for Caicedo.
Brighton had set a deadline of Thursday midnight for receiving bids, with the condition that they would accept the highest offer that met their valuation. Liverpool officially submitted their proposal late on Thursday following Caicedo’s expressed interest in joining Liverpool.
According to information from Sky Sports News, Liverpool engaged in negotiations with Brighton to clarify the financial details of the deal, in case Chelsea was unable or unwilling to come to an agreement. Shortly after midnight, Liverpool was informed that their bid was indeed the highest. Personal terms between Caicedo and Liverpool have been agreed upon, and preparations for the transfer process are now underway.
Reportedly, Chelsea was willing to offer up to £100 million for the transfer, while Bayern Munich indicated a willingness to pay £90 million.
Brighton initially acquired Caicedo from Independiente del Valle in 2021 for £4.5 million.
