Manchester City coach, Josep Guardiola, brought bad news to the fans of the English club this Tuesday (15).
During his press conference prior to the match against Sevilla, scheduled for Wednesday (16) in the UEFA Super Cup, Pep informed that the injury of midfielder Kevin de Bruyne is more serious than initially estimated.
The Belgian player suffered a thigh injury last Friday (11), during Citizens’ debut match in the Premier League against Burnley, and had to leave the game with intense pain.
According to Guardiola’s information, De Bruyne will have to undergo surgery, and his recovery could keep him away from matches for up to four months, implying the loss of several crucial games.
“We will have to set the surgery date. Kevin will be absent for a few months. We will make the decision (about the date) in the next few days, but surgery is surgery… He will be out for three or four months,” he stated.
The coach also lamented the player’s absence but emphasized that he has good options within the squad to replace the star’s talent.
“Kevin’s injury is regrettable, it represents a big loss for the team. He has very specific qualities. Losing a player like him for a long period is a tough blow for us,” he expressed.
“Now, we will have to look forward. We have alternatives within the squad. Kevin is irreplaceable, but we have talented players who will take on this responsibility,” he added.
In this season, De Bruyne has participated in two matches for Manchester City and recorded one assist.
