British goalkeeper Ben Foster has once again chosen to conclude his football career, after participating in merely four matches during the ongoing season. Now at the age of 40, he was associated with Wrexham, a club owned by actor Ryan Reynolds, renowned for his portrayal of “Deadpool,” among other roles.
Ben Foster had previously retired from the sport in September of last year. However, he returned to the professional scene in March, upon an invitation from Wrexham, the team where he initially embarked on his sporting journey.
Nonetheless, in the current 2023/24 season, the goalkeeper took part in just four official encounters, conceding a total of 13 goals. All matches took place in the League Two, corresponding to the fourth division of the English football system. Although Wrexham hails from Wales, it competes in the competitions of the neighboring country.
Ben Foster announced his retirement via social media on this Monday, sharing a video and images from his tenure with the club. Last Saturday, the team drew 5-5 against Swindon Town.
He stated: “Honestly, I recognize that my performance this season falls short of the standards I demand from myself. I feel that now is the opportune moment to draw my career to a close. My decision has taken into account not only what is most beneficial for me, but also for the club. By making this decision now, the club has all possibilities to evaluate its options before the transfer window closes. Wrexham will always hold a special place in my heart.”
Apart from his social media fame, Ben Foster also had a stint with the national team of England. His contribution was pivotal in helping Ryan Reynolds’ team secure the title in the fifth division in the previous season. The transfer window in England concludes on September 1st.
