Manchester United has officially confirmed the signing of Hinata Miyazawa, the Golden Boot winner from the Women’s World Cup.
Miyazawa, a midfielder, made a significant impact during the tournament by scoring five goals in four matches for Japan. Notably, she was the only non-European player to win an award at the competition. Japan’s journey in the Women’s World Cup ended in the quarter-finals when they were defeated by Sweden.
In terms of her domestic career, Miyazawa most recently played for the WE League side Mynavi Sendai, located in Northern Japan. She joined the club in 2021.
Expressing her excitement about the move, Miyazawa stated, “I am truly very happy to be part of this wonderful family and this great team. I am really looking forward to getting started and hope my style of play will excite our fans.”
Manchester United’s manager, Marc Skinner, commented on the signing, saying, “Hinata joins our United family having proven her qualities at the highest level. As her Golden Boot win at this summer’s Women’s World Cup has shown, she will excite our fantastic fans with her direct style of play and her ability to find the most dangerous spaces. We cannot wait to see her develop even further within our playing squad.”
Polly Bancroft, Head of Women’s Football at Manchester United, added, “After this summer’s Women’s World Cup, Hinata’s attacking quality speaks for itself. We are thrilled to welcome her to Manchester United and to European football.”
It’s worth noting that the women’s transfer window will remain open until September 14. Manchester United recently turned down a world-record bid for goalkeeper Mary Earps, who also had an outstanding performance at the World Cup.
Manchester United has been active in the transfer window, with 14 players leaving the club, including Alessia Russo, Ona Batlle, and Maria Thorisdottir. Hinata Miyazawa joins a list of new signings, including Brazil international Geyse.
Fans of Manchester United can catch Miyazawa in action when the team faces Arsenal on Friday, October 6. The kick-off time is scheduled for 7.30pm.
Additionally, on Sunday, October 8, Liverpool’s match against Aston Villa will also be televised live. The following weekend, viewers can watch Chelsea take on West Ham on Saturday, October 14, followed by the Merseyside derby between Liverpool and Everton on Sunday, October 15.
