Brighton, one of the sensations of the Premier League last season, continues to impress in the current campaign. On Saturday, at Old Trafford, the modest team from the south coast of England defeated Manchester United 3-1. The goals for the victory were scored by Welbeck, Gross, and the Brazilian João Pedro, who previously played for Fluminense. Young Tunisian Hannibal Mejbri scored the consolation goal for the Red Devils.
The last time Manchester United lost at Old Trafford was almost a year ago when they were defeated by Real Sociedad in the 2022/23 Champions League on September 8, 2022. Since then, they had gone through 31 games at the Theatre of Dreams without a loss. Interestingly, their last home defeat in the Premier League was indeed against Brighton in August 2022.
With this victory, Brighton now has 12 points and occupies the fourth position in the Premier League table. Next Sunday, the team led by Italian coach Roberto de Zerbi will face Bournemouth. Before that, on Thursday, they have a Europa League match against AEK.
Meanwhile, Manchester United is currently in 12th place in the league with only six points. The team, under the guidance of Dutch coach Erik Ten Hag, will return to action next Wednesday to face Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
