Jannik Sinner had to overcome extra difficulties to defeat Grigor Dimitrov and advance to the semifinals of the ATP 500 in Beijing, China. During Monday’s match, the Italian player experienced discomfort and ended up vomiting into a trash can while still on the court.
At the beginning of the third set, when he was leading 3-0, Sinner took a break in the game to vomit. Nevertheless, he continued in the match and managed to secure the victory with a score of 2 sets to 1, with scores of 6/4, 3/6, and 6/2. At the start of the tournament, Sinner had already revealed that he was suffering from an illness.
“In the first days, I was sick and tried somehow to advance to the first round, knowing that I would have a day off. Every day is a different experience. Now, I feel physically much better, and I believe that when I am in this physical condition, my game becomes a little easier,” Sinner stated after defeating Nishioka in the previous round.
In the semifinals of the ATP Beijing, Jannik Sinner will face the Spanish player Carlos Alcaraz. The match is scheduled for Tuesday.
