PFL Europe Semifinals in Paris: Doumbé’s 9-Second Knockout Stuns Crowd

by | Oct 3, 2023 | MMA

The PFL Europa held the semifinals of the four categories of the event this Saturday in Paris, marking the penultimate chapter of the season. The eight finalists competing for the $100,000 prize in each division, as well as for the belts, are now preparing for the final event on December 8th in Dublin, Ireland. Some PSG stars, such as Kylian Mbappé, Lucas Hernandez, Kolo Muani, and Achraf Hakimi, were in the audience in Paris to honor the event.

One of the highlights of the card was the debut in the organization of the Cameroonian ex-kickboxer living in France, Cédric Doumbé, who secured a brutal knockout victory in just 9 seconds. Another notable debut was that of the Argentine and former UFC fighter, Laureano Staropoli, who also emerged victorious. However, the only Brazilian in the event, Henrique Madureira, was defeated.

In the main event of the welterweight category (up to 77.6kg), Cédric Doumbé, a Cameroonian residing in France and a two-time Glory kickboxing champion, put on a great show for the local fans. With only 9 seconds of the fight, he knocked out fellow Frenchman Jordan Zébo. This was Doumbé’s fifth consecutive victory in MMA.

Furthermore, Doumbé caught attention by entering the arena with a mattress that had “boa noite Jordan” (good night Jordan) written on it in French. He had already given Zébo a pillow during the weigh-in, alluding to the fact that he would put him to “sleep” with a knockout, and he fulfilled his promise.

The finalized finals include the lightweight division, with John Mitchell defeating Geisym Derouiche by unanimous decision, and Jakub Kaszuba beating Dylan Tuke also by unanimous decision. In the bantamweight finals, Frans Mlambo defeated Mokhtar Benkaci by split decision, while Khurshed Kakhorov defeated Ali Taleb by unanimous decision. In the women’s flyweight division, Valentina Scatizzi will face Dakota Ditcheva in the final after the latter’s technical knockout victory over Cornelia Holm.

Finally, in the light heavyweight division, Siméon Powell defeated Daniel Ladero by unanimous decision, and Jakob Nedoh defeated Anthony Salamone by knockout. Powell and Nedoh will face each other in the PFL Europa final.

Henrique Madureira, the Brazilian representative in the lightweight category, did not perform well and was defeated by the Frenchman Yazid Chouchane by unanimous decision.

Other results include Laureano Staropoli’s victory, as he continued his good form since leaving the UFC, defeating Togolese fighter Baba Boundjou Nadjombe by technical knockout. Additionally, Dakota Ditcheva won by technical knockout against Cornelia Holm.
