Islam Makhachev delivered an outstanding performance on Saturday (21) at UFC 294. He knocked out Alexander Volkanovski in the first round, retaining his lightweight (70 kg) title. Following the event in Abu Dhabi, the impressive performance by Khabib Nurmagomedov’s protégé was rewarded with a $50,000 bonus (R$ 250,000) for the ‘Performance of the Night’ award. The highlight of the fight, which likely secured Makhachev’s bonus, was the high kick he delivered to Volkanovski’s head.
This strike marked the beginning of the end for the Australian fighter, who endured a flurry of ground strikes before the referee stepped in and ended the bout. After the event, the UFC announced the award on their social media platforms.
In addition to Makhachev, three other fighters also received the ‘Performance of the Night’ bonus for swiftly winning their respective bouts: Muhammad Mokaev, Ikram Aliskerov, and Said Nurmagomedov.
