The current holder of the Champions League title continues its impressive journey. Manchester City defeated Young Boys 3-0 on Tuesday at the Etihad Stadium, securing their spot in the round of 16 of the 2023/24 Champions League. Striker Haaland opened the scoring for the English team in the 23rd minute, converting a penalty, and forward Foden extended their lead in the final moments of the first half. Haaland completed the scoring with a spectacular goal in the sixth minute of the second half.
With the two goals scored on Tuesday, Haaland reached a total of 15 goals in 17 games for Manchester City this season. He is one of the top goal-scorers in the Champions League, with four goals. In fact, throughout the history of the Champions League, he has already scored 39 goals in total.
Manchester City was the team that reached the milestone of 250 goals in the history of the Champions League the fastest, requiring only 119 games to do so. Pep Guardiola’s team secured their place in the round of 16 with a perfect performance, winning all four matches, scoring 12 goals and conceding only three. Only Bayern Munich (twice) and Real Madrid managed to win all four consecutive games in the Champions League after winning the title in the previous season.
Manchester City’s next challenge in the Champions League is scheduled for November 28, after this month’s international break, against RB Leipzig in England, with the group leadership at stake. On the same day, Young Boys will host Red Star Belgrade at the Stade de Suisse.
