In a matchup held on Tuesday night at the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City, the Oklahoma City Thunder bounced back from an opening loss and defeated the San Antonio Spurs 123-87 in a game valid for the NBA Cup. The standout performer was 25-year-old point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who led the scoring with 28 points and also contributed with six rebounds and five assists. Josh Giddey also had a noteworthy performance, scoring 18 points in the game.
On the Spurs’ side, star player Victor Wembanyama dominated the paint, securing 14 rebounds, including 11 defensive boards, although he wasn’t as effective on offense, recording only eight points.
It’s important to emphasize that NBA Cup games also count towards the regular season. Both teams are in the Western Group C, and with two losses, the Spurs are in the fifth and last position, while OKC is in fourth place after the victory.
In the overall standings, the Oklahoma City Thunder now has seven wins in eleven games, holding the fifth position in the Western Conference. The Spurs have accumulated eight losses and are in the 14th position.
The NBA Cup, a cup-format competition, began this Friday, played simultaneously with the regular league season. Although inspired by European championships, which have separate schedules for the cup and league, in the NBA, the predetermined games are valid for both the NBA Cup and the regular season.
