After suffering two consecutive defeats in the World Cup qualifiers, the Brazilian national team will face Argentina at the Maracanã next Tuesday (21). Lionel Messi seems eagerly anticipating this encounter.
In an interview with the Olé newspaper after the loss to Uruguay, the talented Argentine captain commented on the challenging task his team will face and provided an honest assessment of the Brazilian opponents.
“Now, we will face a challenging stadium, with all the implications of playing against Brazil, at the Maracanã, with a team that has recently not been performing well, losing to Uruguay, suffering defeats as visitors,” he stated.
He added, “The Brazilian fans are quite demanding of their team, so it will be an exciting challenge for us.”
If they manage to defeat Brazil, it will be the first loss for the Brazilian national team at home in a World Cup qualifier. However, the Argentinians do not see this as additional motivation.
“It is always motivating because it is Brazil, and all games against Brazil are special. We do not think about records or things we can achieve, only about continuing to grow, improve, and return to winning, imposing our style of play, which is the most important,” Messi concluded.
Upcoming games for the Brazilian national team:
Argentina (H): 11/21, 9:30 PM (Brasília time) – World Cup qualifiers
England (A): 3/23, to be confirmed – friendly
Spain (A): to be confirmed – friendly
