On Thursday, Novak Djokovic defeated Hubert Hurkacz in the ATP Finals, securing his victory in the Green Group. However, to ensure his spot in the semifinals, he relied on Jannik Sinner’s win over Holger Rune. Sinner, who had previously defeated Djokovic, triumphed over Rune with a score of 2 sets to 1 (6/2, 5/7, and 6/4), allowing the world number 1 to also advance in the competition.
Djokovic’s match against Hurkacz ended with scores of 7/6 (1), 4/6, and 6/1. Even after losing the second set, Djokovic secured Sinner’s qualification before the end of the game. The Serbian faced challenges with Hurkacz’s powerful serve, who hit 24 aces in the match.
Djokovic acknowledged the difficulties against the Polish player, stating, “He is a player I admire a lot off the court, but he often causes me problems with his serve.”
With the qualification confirmed, Djokovic now awaits the final spots in the semifinals, which will be determined by the matches between Daniil Medvedev and Carlos Alcaraz, and Andrey Rublev and Alexander Zverev in the Green and Red Groups, respectively.
